Zoe’s Summer Birthday
Oh yes, a finished project indeed! Ignore the picture, I’m not very good at this self-photography thing, but this is the knitted top I made from one of my Mum’s vintage photocopies (I think it may have been a Women’s Weekly pattern). The yarn is an 8ply cotton/bamboo, Serenity by Patons. I split the yarn to make it a 4ply, but I tell you what, that’s the first and last time I’ll do that, only because knitting is more exciting than splitting. The cotton/bamboo mix is so soft and lovely, really light. I love an animal fiber, but this has such a great drape about it that you just don’t get otherwise.
The pattern is an odd one, I like the idea of it but it’s definitely hard to execute . I ended up sewing the sides to the waist band, although normally I think I would make it more fitted. Since I’m gifting it to my best girl Zoe, I sewed it where it naturally fell and figured she may want to wear it how she pleases. Since it’s to be a casual wear, y’know, through it on over your bathers on your way back to the beach, keep cool with it in the summer in the beer gardens of Brunswick, that kind of thing. What are the kids calling it, effortless chic, that’s it!
Oh, and just randomly, very excited about my next trip to JB HiFi. Have been browsing CD Wow, which is notoriously bad for your credit card, and I see that the new Franz Ferdinand and Lily Allen albums are out. When did I get bad at release dates? I use to line up for this shit. While I wait for payday over here, let’s all enjoy the sexiness of the latest Franz video. I’d seriously marry Alex Kapranos if dating musicians wasn’t bad for your health.
